Running is an important part of my life. It keeps me fit and strong and gives me energy to run my business and the do the other important things in my life. Athletics is a pure sport, it is you against an opponent or against the stop watch. There is no place to hide. I enjoy the competition but the training can be problematic – there are always plenty of reasons to delay putting on the running shoes – too cold, too tired, too much to do – but if you don’t train you don’t perform. I compete every second week during our winter in a cross-country club competition held in the beautiful parks and bush tracks around Melbourne. I have had an injury free season and have found time to train. My training times and race performances have gradually been getting better. Last Saturday, I received a bronze medal for coming third on handicap
